Naomi Long has given her support for a national day designed to help get children reading.
Save the Children’s Read On, Get On campaign is intended to get all children reading well by the end of primary school, with the scheme aiming for 100 per cent completion by 2025.
East Belfast Alliance Westminster candidate Naomi took part today (Thursday), using the time to read titles such as kids’ classic Mr Men to local children Emma and Jessica Cochrane.
Naomi said the 10 minutes a day message was a simple but important one.
“Studies show adults reading to children for even 10 minutes a day can have a transformative effect on them, but unfortunately it’s not happening as much as it should. But those 10 minutes a day are all it takes to build a strong foundation for children’s reading.
“With a range of well-known faces taking part in the Read On, Get On campaign, I hope it inspires both children and adults to get onboard and show how inspirational, educational and fun reading can be.”
